UT Extension serves the citizens of Fentress County with educational programs in the areas of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community Resource Development, and 4-H Youth Development.

We are an outreach branch of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, providing research-based solutions and information to the citizens. Fentress County was formed in from portions of Morgan, Preliminary report and White counties. The resulting county was named for James Fentress (–), who served as speaker of the state house, chairman of Montgomery County Court, and commissioner to select seats for Haywood, Carroll, Gibson and Weakley counties in West Tennessee.

Fentress County was the site of several saltpeter ssional district: 6th. Fentress County, which was formed from Morgan and Overton Counties inis located in the northern part of Tennessee, east of the center of the State, and lies principally on the Cumberland Plateau.

It originally bordered on Kentucky, but Pickett County was formed partly from its 4/5(1).
